This sculpture was originally created as a community project for the Festival of the Wind event in 2011.

The project was supported by Esperance Community Arts and facilitated by visiting artist Jahne Rees.

Rees worked with a number of local artists including Nicole Chalmer, Phil Shelton and Amber Perryman, to design and create the sculpture, which is made of concrete, inlaid with shells, and coloured stones, and polished.

Jahne Rees has worked mainly in the Perth region on public art commissions, community art projects and mural projects.

The 2011 Festival of the Wind Foreshore Sculpture with Seats was relocated to the Skate Park as part of the foreshore upgrade.

The Festival of the Wind was a biannual festival held in Esperance for over two decades. The festival included live music, art projects, the taste of Esperance, featuring locally grown foods from the Esperance region, and Esperance Odyssey, which explores the hidden treasures of the town. The Festival of the Wind committee made the difficult decision to close their doors in 2018.
