Waghorn Bottle Collection Coolgardie

Description

Originally collected by Frank and May Waghorn, the famous Waghorn Bottle collection includes bottles and glassware dating from 300BC through to present day.

The Waghorns started their collection in 1954 on a trip to Sandstone, never thinking they would end up creating such a beautiful and extensive collection.

Glass was made from sand, soda and lime, the iron oxide in the sand, giving the green colour to the glass. By adding different minerals, they created different shades of glass.

Coolgardie’s famous Waghorn Collection has won many prizes and is one of the largest and most comprehensive antique bottle displays in Australia.

If you are a member of a Bottles & Collectables Club – than this exhibition will surely amaze!

The collection is housed at the Coolgardie Museum.
