Description

Constructed from aluminium, wood, glass and stainless steel and installed in November 2014, this artwork represents local maritime history.

This installation is one of two collaborative artworks by Esperance-based artists Cindy Poole and Jason Woolridge selected for the Esperance Waterfront project by the Shire of Esperance under the Percent for Art Scheme.

The work is interactive and child friendly, comprising three distinct rudders that acts as a large compass, allowing people to create their own directions.

The accompanying cardinal points are made of recycled Jarrah corbels from the Tanker Jetty and feature delicate glass inserts that incorporate images of local marine life.

Jason Wooldridge works part-time as a Design and Technology teacher and as an artist, designer and sculptor in his workshop and studio, Esperance Sculpture Works.

Cindy Poole operates Section Glass Gallery, a working studio specialising in kiln-fired glasswork, designer glass jewellery and bespoke and conceptual glass objects and sculptures.

This is site 62 on the Esperance Arts and Culture Trail map.
