Tanky Hill is a fantastic place to get an overall picture of the town. We recommend you go just before the sun sets to appreciate the colours of golden hour in Leonora.
The Stone Tank is located in a prominent location on top of Smoodgers Hill and is heritage listed.
Leonora’s first water scheme was completed in 1902. This consisted of pumping water by a large windmill to a reservoir on top of Tanky (‘Smoodgers’) Hill, which reticulated the town.
Park at the east end of Queen Victoria Street (heading away from Mount Leonora) and take a short stroll up the hill. On one side you’ll see our residential and industrial area and behind you’ll get a fantastic view of the vast, open plains of the Northern Goldfields.
