This underground drilling machine was one of the first of its type used in the Kambalda area.
Generally, these machines are used to drill holes for blasting underground.
It was refurbished by Tamrock Mining, delivered here by Littles Industries, offloaded by Brambles and donated to the Kambalda Tourist Bureau for display in July 1998.
It belonged to Western Mining Corporation, Kambalda Nickel Operations, but operated at gold and nickel mines, that included Victory pit and Foster decline. Mine managers switched them between sites as they cooperated well on production matters. Keeping track of their location was therefore difficult.
Interestingly, Jumbo operators who used this machine remember doing so when they visit the Kambalda Arts Centre, where the operators manual is kept for viewing.
