Description

A tree surrounded by a white fence marks the vicinity where gold was first discovered in the region by Paddy Hannan, Thomas Flanagan and Daniel Shea in 1893.

This is not the original tree that was planted to mark the finding, with the first one planted in 1897 but subsequently dying in 1935.

A kurrajong tree was replanted in the spot by Paddy Hannan’s granddaughter after the first died.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the find, a new tree was planted in the spot in 1993.
