The ‘New Land Farmers Mural’ unveiled in June 2018, pays tributes to the many people who came to the region between the 1950s and 1970s to open up the rich sandplains to agriculture, supporting a post-war population boom.

The mural, located in the alleyway on the wall of the National Australia Bank branch and painted by Esperance sculptor Phil Shelton, depicts images from across the agricultural industry and includes the names of more than 300 people involved in establishing the industry in this region.

The mural was commissioned by retired farmer Marilyn Hart who arrived from Victoria with her late husband John in 1964, joining people from as far away as Belgian, who established family farms in this remote community.
