Lake Cowan Lookout

Mort Harslett Drive, Norseman
Western Australia
Lake Cowan Lookout

Lake Cowan or ‘Worinburna’ for the Ngadju people is a large salt lake sitting primarily to the north of Norseman, and through to Widgiemooltha.

It only holds water after heavy rains and is typically dry on its surface. Some of Norseman’s most stunning sunsets are captured by photographers over the lake.

There is a popular overnight camping spot and lookout 7km along Mort Harslett Drive at the beginning the ‘Granite and Woodlands Discovery Trail’ and has views over the glistening salt lake. Tourists are invited to use the shaded picnic area. The road to the lookout is unsealed but in good condition and suitable for all vehicles and vans provided travelers drive to the conditions.

Lake Cowan can also be viewed from a rest area along the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway, approximately 15km north of Norseman.

Visitors are asked to respect the conservation work of the Ngadju Rangers in the area as they work to protect Country, flora, and fauna.

ALL TRAVELLERS ARE ADVISED TO NOT DRIVE ON THE SALT LAKES, due to the high risk of being bogged.
