Holding more than a century of history, the Kalgoorlie Town Hall should not be missed during a visit to the city.
The building is also home to the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre and Sporting Hall of Fame, where visitors can view photographs of local sporting heroes, artefacts and memorabilia, The Council Chambers and Mayor’s Parlour also contain many objects, photographs and paintings to view.
The building itself is enough of an attraction, built-in 1908 as a state-of-the-art theatre with the fly tower and original theatre rigging, backstage area with 11 dressing rooms all remaining.
Built for just 20,000 pounds, the building boasts pressed metal ceilings, chandeliers and a sweeping staircase. The Kalgoorlie Town Hall was custom constructed to be a natural amphitheatre, which means that there is a perfect balance in the theatre between design and acoustics. The theatre could host operas, orchestras etc. as the sound was clearly audible anywhere in the theatre.
Guided tours are available – please check with Kalgoorlie Boulder Visitor Centre staff for more information.
