In the alcoves of the Boulder Court House there are four plaques that commemorate the part Boulder played in the Federation of Western Australia.

This small display records this momentous event in Western Australia’s history where the Goldfields challenged the rest of the State to hold a referendum on becoming part of the Commonwealth of Australia and won the day.

Read about the journey that eventually led to Federation in WA, and how the right for women to vote, when Sir John Forrest agreed with the Female Suffrage Movement, became an historic point in history. This was only the second time women had been granted the vote in the world.

And the rest is history!
