Description

Step into the past at Burra Rock, where examples of pioneering ingenuity and rusted relics tell intriguing stories of the Goldfields’ diverse history.

An amazing example of pioneering ingenuity, Burra Rock is one of the locations that a catchment wall and dam were created on the rock during the 1920s and ’30s. These catchments were created to collect water for the steam trains of the wood lines.

Burra Rock is now a popular camping area amongst locals and visitors, with water available all year round for swimming or cray-fishing.

Spectacular 360-degree views take in the enormity of the landscape when you climb to the top of this granite outcrop.

Enjoy nature’s ability to sculpt the rock surface and create fascinating arrangements of boulders, perched precariously over its slopes. Follow the rivulets that lead down to the dam which form this amazing natural and unique environment.

There are information boards in the picnic area which describe the fascinating story of early settlers who once lived and farmed the Burra Rock area.

The woodlands surrounding Burra Rock are known internationally for its ecological diversity.
