Description

The design for the ‘Foreshore Granite Seats’ by Shayne Witt and Esperance-based stonemason and builder Mick Kennaugh, was selected from a number of entries submitted to the 2009 Festival of the Wind seat competition.

Made from granite sourced from the Australian Granite Quarry, Mt Edward, the seating is now situated on the Esperance foreshore next to the boat ramp.

Born in 1956, Mick Kennaugh moved to Esperance in the late ’70s to commence mud-brick building, earning him the name of ‘Mud Brick Mick.’ Mick is well known for his innovative design work.

The Festival of the Wind was a biannual festival held in Esperance for over two decades. The festival included live music, art projects, the taste of Esperance, featuring locally grown foods from the Esperance region, and Esperance Odyssey, which explores the hidden treasures of the town. The Festival of the Wind committee made the difficult decision to close their doors in 2018.
