About Our Gems

This exciting new project from Artgold celebrates the arts, culture, history, heritage, and creativity in our Goldfields-Esperance region.

The Region

The Goldfields-Esperance region is located in the south-eastern corner of Western Australia and is the largest region in the state with a land area of 771,276 square kilometres.

The region is three times the size of the state of Victoria and just under a third of Western Australia's total landmass. Throw in the Shire of Wiluna in the Mid West region – and you have an adventure on your hands.

The Our Gems website is designed to compliment and extend the existing marketing of visitor experiences and tourism services operating in the region.

We invite you to come and experience our backyard and discover Our Gems for yourself.

A variety of established and developing trails helps you, the visitor, connect to our heritage, culture, arts, mining, gem collecting, genealogy, nature and environment through places such as the ghost town of Kanowna, the Great Western Woodlands, Coolgardie' Mother of the Goldfields', and more. The 965km Golden Quest Discovery Trail or the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail are just a couple of ways to experience our history.

Creative Industries, including retail, are considered significant for the quality of life experiences and important for economy and culture. Typically, a collection of industries including music, performing arts, film, television and radio, advertising and marketing, writing, publishing and comprise this sector. In the Goldfields-Esperance region, creative industries are an emerging area, and you can be one of the first to get a taste of Arts and Culture in this unique part of the world.

The region's cultural heritage is founded upon thousands of years of Aboriginal culture and more recent European exploration and settlement. Recent history contains the early influences of mining, agriculture and pastoral explorers, pioneers and subsequent industries that led to the establishment of the regional centres and communities that exist today.

We can't wait to meet you!
